Guide for Parents & Families

The Department of Risk Management, Safety and Security (RMSS) is committed to maintaining the safety of UNC Charlotte's campus community including students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

RMSS is has the critical task of developing response mechanisms for the multitude of incidents that can affect the campus or members of its community. To that end the department is responsible for creating and constantly updating an Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), working with all necessary university departments to communicate their responsibilities, and conducting exercises to test campus readiness for possible incidents.

Students are always invited to voice their opinions on how UNC Charlotte can be made a safer place by joining the Dean of Student's Office, which works with Police and Public Safety (PPS) to assist students in navigating UNC Charlotte polices, rules and regulations, as well as with questions and concerns about campus safety. For more information regarding PPS safety programs please follow this link. In addition, encourage your child to sign up for emergency notification.
